ANTHONY HOSE

Anthony Hose played the piano from age three and gave his first recital aged six. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London, continuing conducting studies at the Salzburg Mozarteum and with Rafael Kubelik in Munich and Geneva. Orchestras he has worked with include the Berlin Symphony, Icelandic Symphony, L’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Rhine Philharmonic, Munich Bach Collegium, L’Orchestre de L'Opéra de Lyons, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata and Welsh Chamber Orchestra of which he is principal conductor. He has conducted many premieres including works by Mark Bowden, Marcus Jones, Joseph Davies, Manuel de Murga, Gareth Glyn, Warren Greveson, Kenneth Hesketh, Alun Hoddinott, Sydney Hodkinson, Geraint Lewis, Paul Mealor, John Metcalf, William Mival, Kath Morris, Julian Philips, John Pickard, Rhian Samuel, Hilary Tann, Colin Tommis and Huw Watkins.  

He has worked with opera houses in America, France, Iceland, Italy and Sweden and conducted 35 productions for Welsh National Opera; for BBC television, Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, and the world premiere of The Servants by William Mathias for HTV. He founded the Buxton International Festival where he conducted many operas and concerts including the first complete performance in Britain of Kodály's Háry János and Cherubini's Medée, and for BBC Radio 3, Cavalli's Jason, Kodály's folk opera The Spinning Room and Gounod’s La Colombe. For Icelandic television he has recorded videos of Il Trovatore (Verdi), Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni (Mozart) and Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach). He was for many years a professor at the Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music before taking up a position as Director of Orchestral Studies at Stetson University in Florida.
